SOLIDWORKS MANAGE
Product development and lifecycle management software
What is SOLIDWORKS Manage and Why is it Important?
With many projects having a long or short lifecycle, it is important that the correct files be accessed and used at every step for resulting success. SOLIDWORKS Manage is an end-to-end data management solution for product development and helps in the total lifecycle management.
It facilitates collaborative working by managing and coordinating different activities within the product development scenario. It also acts as a central repository by helping to collect and store manufacturing data among others, thereby helping accelerate go-to-market and shortening the product design and testing lifecycle.
TOOLS
Product Data Management (PDM)
Brings an understanding of CAD file relationships. Saves time and effort in storing and retrieving files. Suitable for all 2D or 3D CAD. Database-driven environment facilitates collaboration.
Document Management
Brings version control to all file types. Satisfies QMS requirements. Documents can be stored along with original design files, centrally controlled and managed. Secure solution
Item Master Records Management
Items are data that is related to design but not a CAD model or a spreadsheet. Can be linked with product data records. Can have attributes and manage multiple files and relationships. Simplifies the process and brings sense and sensibility to activities
Item Master Records Management

Bill of Material (BOM) Management
Database-driven record. Frees from multiple and separate storages of data like excel spreadsheets. Supports backward or forward integration based on company needs. Flexible solution with an amazing array of features like variant configurations, kit BOMs, etc.
Process Management
Helps manage the design, approval, and other related processes centrally. Configuration-based modules including engineering, document changes etc. No programming required. Process controls can be created, used and applied in different situations.
Task Assignment
Multiple user levels and different task assignments across the platform. Brings accountability and speeds development. Individual tasks have dedicated dashboards with full details, timelines and calendars. Tasks and workflows can be mapped for added ease and streamlining. Supports Agile workflows and sprints
Product Portfolio Management
Brings total control to the product portfolio management setup. Deliverables are tracked and bring complete project management support. No more lost data or blind spots in project execution
Data Analytics
Comprehensive tool suite, which can be easily configured. No third-party dependency. Delivers configurable dashboards as well as standard dashboards with widgets, gauges, etc. Easy report preparation and generation of business intelligence for action taking
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is SOLIDWORKS Manage an extension or add-on to PDM ?
Both systems are bi-directionally integrated by SOLIDWORKS so that they form a single system. However, when you look at the scale of the included functionality, Manage accounts for the majority of the delivered functionality. So in reality, PDM is an extension or ‘module’ of Manage not the other way around. Once you adopt Manage it assumes control of PDM and integrates PDM data.
Is it possible to upgrade PDM to Manage ?
Yes. Both PDM Standard and PDM Pro vaults may be upgraded to Manage. For PDM Standard, this means purchasing net-new Manage licensing and the vault is then integrated to Manage as a Pro level vault. With PDM Pro the upgrade includes a discounted Manage license price to account for the investment already made previously in the PDM Pro license purchase.
Can Manage Process Records drive a PDM workflow ?
Yes. By design, Manage process records can assume control of lifecycle and revision management of PDM files. Ideally, this allows PDM workflows to be simplified and allow for Manage to handle all process decision making and relegates PDM states to only need to behave as lifecycle maps and no longer must perform as approval routes as well. It remains possible however for both workflow systems to be used separately or together.
What license types are available?
Both PDM and Manage use the same licensing tiers: Editor, Contributors, and Viewers. Editors are for CAD editors, Contributors are for non-CAD editors, and Viewers are for read-only records access. All license types are concurrent-use ‘floating’ networked global licenses.
