How to Create Hoses with Multiple Strands
In SolidWorks there are many ways to create Flexible parts by using Sweep, Flex and other surface features.
I came across many customers who asked for how to create hoses with multiple strands, since they want to showcase the 3D Model to their customers. A metal hose is a flexible metal line element which has two basic types of metal hose that differ in their design and application:
- Strip wound hoses
- Corrugated hoses.
Strip wound hoses have a high mechanical strength (e.g. tensile strength and tear strength). Corrugated hoses can withstand high pressure and provide maximum leak tightness on account of their material. They are particularly well suited for conveying hot and cold substances.
Now let’s see how to create Hoses with strands using SolidWorks functionalities.
STEP 1
Draw a Sketch and Helix
STEP 2
Convert into Surface using sweep
STEP 3
Create another helix and create a 3D Intersection sketch/Surface
STEP 4
Create sweep of one strand
STEP 5
Create circular pattern and linear pattern
STEP 6
Mirror the same for opposite side
With a history of more than one hundred years, metal hoses have given rise to other flexible line elements, including metal expansion joints, metal bellows and semi-flexible and flexible metal pipes. In Germany alone, there are about 3500 patents relating to metal hoses.
Hope by using SolidWorks, now it is easy to design hoses with strands in a much more convenient way and 3D representation can be given to the customers and can be published in Website for more enquiries.
