How to Create cables in SOLIDWORKS Electrical

Introduction

In this blog post, I will show you how to create cables in SOLIDWORKS Electrical. There are many guides out there on how to create cables, but most of them leave out important details, or worse, are simply wrong.

Cables play a very important role in electrical and electronic systems, carrying electrical current between components. They are found in a wide variety of applications, from smartphones and laptops to cars and industrial machinery.

5 steps to create cables in SOLIDWORKS Electrical

STEP 1: Open cable reference manager

In the library, select cable reference manager to open a new table. Then create a new reference and classification manager.

The classification manager is like a folder in which we can filter with different standards.

STEP 2: Create new cable properties

Select the new reference option in the cable reference manager ribbon.

The cable reference properties tab will be opened. We have to provide our specification which includes dia, Sq.mm, color, cores, core dia these are the important things needed to be updated in the property tab

STEP 3: Assign cable core properties

Cable core properties are found on the same tab as the third choice at the top. There, we must enter the number of cores required for the cable.

We must also indicate the dia of the core we require, as well as control over whether it is a miscellaneous, power, or neutral core. This tab also allows users to pick the colors of the cores.

STEP 4: Assign cable between components

After we have built the new cable, we must place it and assign it to the components that require it.

Wires are drawn & cable is created after the components have been placed.

STEP 5: Associate cable cores

Now, we must use the new cable option to add the cable to the associated cable cores tab. After that, we must choose the cable we made in the library manager.

At the bottom, we must select four wires in addition to the four cores.

After choosing all of them, we should use the associate cable cores option at the top of the page as shown in the below image.

Once paired, it will turn green, and the origin and destination will be updated as well.

The cable is also added to wires, and a cable mark is seen between the components.
